What do you like most about being part of O'Brien?
I really enjoy everyone’s curiosity. As part of our investment team my job is to help develop the best strategies for our clients, but in our Investment Committee meetings everyone gets involved and asks questions about the insights we bring to them. I have worked in large corporations where people focus on their own narrow areas of expertise, but I far prefer an environment where people are genuinely interested in what others have to contribute.
Can you share one secret to success that has been helpful to you in your career?
Being available to take on any number of responsibilities is important to succeed in any career. If you close yourself off and only focus on those one or two things you know how to do well, you’ll miss out on discovering other things you may be exceptional at.
If wealth management were an ocean, what kind of creature would you be?
I would be a cormorant - an aquatic bird known for its unique hunting style of diving deep under the surface for over a minute to catch its prey. In an analyst role, you have to be able to dive deep into the research to find the best opportunities. At the same time you need to know when to come up for air and look at the bigger picture.
What would your co-workers say is your superpower?
My ability to take on a challenge. Whether it involves researching a new investment opportunity or presenting to the Investment Committee, I am always excited to jump in and get my hands dirty. I enjoy being an analyst, because it requires you to look into a seemingly innumerable landscape of choices. I am ready to jump in and rein in that landscape, making the overwhelming manageable.
You’re a new addition to the crayon box, what color would you be?
I would be True Blue. I always try to be a loyal friend and coworker, and value responsibility in everything I do. It is important that I am direct and deliberate with my actions. Also, blue is my favorite color!
